[edit] Taking the Wall

  • Two versions exist; play each as written. [JA, 12 December 2001]

[edit] Takuni

  • Name changed to Yoritomo Takuni. [MRP]

[edit] Tamori Hiroko

  • You may bow her after discarding at the end of your turn to draw a card. You do not need to discard again if you have more than 8 cards in hand. [JA, 12 December 2001]
  • Multiples may be used after any discard, including that at the end of the turn. [JA, 12 December 2001]

[edit] Tamori Minoru

  • A Region moved by Minoru may enter play from the Province it is moved into. [JA, 23 April 2004]

[edit] Tangen Sensei

  • Ability can be used without limit during the Declaration and both Maneuvers Segments, because the trigger may be met at times when there is no current battle. [JA, email, 21 January 2004]
  • A single action may not be redirected multiple times. [JA, 4 February 2005]

[edit] Taquar

  • Reaction triggers once per ability, not once per instance of targeting. [DW, email, 19 September 1997]

[edit] Tattoo of the Void

  • If you need to know whether you have units in the battle (a yes/no question between "zero" and "more than zero" or, "Do I satisfy the Rule of Presence?"), ignore a unit led by a Personality with a Void Tattoo. If a particular number of units matters (e.g., "one" for Come One at a Time), do not ignore the unit. [JA, 30 May 2003]

[edit] Tchickchuk

  • "A Ratling Follower can be attached to Tchickchuk when he performs this action" means "You may take this action when paying for a Ratling attaching to Tchickchuk" (as seen on Kan'ok'ticheck, who has the same ability), not that you can attach a Follower to him while he's reducing the cost of another Ratling card coming into play elsewhere. [January 2000; Clarified, BC, 28 June 2008]

[edit] Teaching Stick

  • Reads, "Teaching Stick +0F/+0C 2G 3F Weapon. This Personality loses and may not gain the Duelist trait. If this Personality has less than 5 Force, duels this Personality are involved in are duels of Force. Open: Gain +2F." [Erratum, ZF, 24 July 2006]

[edit] Temple Guard

  • Is not a Temple card. [Keyword rules exception.]

[edit] Temple of Blood

  • Its text "for this battle" should be read as "during this battle or as a Reaction to its end". [ZF, 14 August 2000]

[edit] Temple of Persistence

  • The Follower in play performs the ability on the discarded one as if it had that ability itself, following all restrictions on legality (e.g., cannot use any action while bowed, etc.). [JA, email, 12 April 2005]

[edit] Tetsuya's Bo

  • Focus Value is 4. [Erratum.]

[edit] The Agasha Join the Phoenix

  • Should read "All your Personalities from that family in your deck and Provinces swear fealty to your Faction." [Erratum]
  • For a name to be legally chosen, there need only be one Personality with that name who has a base alignment (including multiple alignments) to a Faction other than yours. [JA, 24 February 2001]

[edit] The Ancient Halls of the Akodo

  • Name changed to The Ancient Halls of the Lion. [MRP]

[edit] The Ancient Halls of the Lion

  • Renamed from The Ancient Halls of the Akodo. [MRP]
  • Reaction is triggered before the Terrain's effects activate (ie, cannot be prevented by Deadly Ground). [DW, 13 February 1998]

[edit] The Bronze Gong of the Hantei

  • Its text "during any battle" should be read as "per battle"; it does not create an exception to either Presence or Location. [DW, email, 07 February 1997; BC, clarified, 26 June 2008]

[edit] The Brotherhood of Shinsei

  • The part of the ability that says to "put it into play immediately" is not considered an effect that puts the Ring into play. Rather, it is an effect that creates an exception to timing and the restriction of putting the Ring into play "from your hand" that has you put the Ring into play by its own text after the normal timing for triggered traits has passed. Therefore, a Ring put into play using the Stronghold's ability will count toward an Enlightenment victory (if the circumstance the ability reacts to is the one that triggers the Ring's own trait). [BC, 8 June 2008]

[edit] The Coward's Way

  • Your opponent may focus or strike first, not just focus. [Erratum, DW, September 16 1996]
  • The phrase "joins the duel" is color text; the second Personality is not participating in or entering the duel. [DW, 21 March 1997]

[edit] The Dark Daughter's Caress

  • A Personality who can perform a Spell or Kiho action as if he was a Shugenja does not gain the Shadowlands keyword. [JA, 26 August 2002]

[edit] The Darkened Path

  • Leaving play via this effect won't end any "while this ring is in play," "until this ring leaves play," or "while this ring is under your control" durations. Additionally, when the Rings are returned to play, they return exactly as they left - they retain the same game states (bowed, unbowed, controlled by Player X) and any effects on them that didn't time out while they were out of play. [ML, 15 August 2006]

[edit] The Darkest Magics

  • Black Scrolls with the same title, even if they are different Experience levels, count only once per title toward the seven and/or twelve that this Event's effects check. [BC, 31 March 2008]
  • The "use" of each Black Scroll must be successful. [JA]

[edit] The Dark Path of Shadow

  • The "cannot" wording on this Stronghold, in this older instance of its use, is not negation. Its player does not lose Honor from opponents' card effects or his own Ninja cards. [Extension/summary of other rulings, BC, 8 June 2008]
  • Ability should read, "Battle: Even if this Stronghold is bowed and even if you cannot take actions during the current battle, if the current army attacking your province has less than 10 total Chi: Move all its units home. Bow each unit that moved." [Erratum, summary of other rulings/errata, BC, 29 June 2008]
  • Another player can modify Honor losses you cause yourself.

[edit] The Death of Ryoshun

  • Under Legacy Rules allowing pre-Khan's Defiance Open actions to be taken during battle, this Event's action is legal to take if you have Presence, as it does not violate the Rule of Location. [Reversal, BC, 25 June 2008]
  • Ability prevents the use of abilities on cards that were out of play at the time (e.g., another copy of the card that might enter play during the effect's duration). [ZF, 09 June 2005]

[edit] The Doji Plains

  • Doubles the base production of the Holding before any other modifiers to production are applied. [DW, email, 28 February 1997]

[edit] The Dragon's Heart

  • Costs are also duplicated and must be paid. [Erratum, DW, email, 21 August 1998]

[edit] The Egg of P'an Ku

  • Reads, "The Egg of P'an Ku 9G 4FV Unique. Limited: Target a Personality, including a Unique Personality or one who will not join you. This card enters play in your home. It becomes a copy of that Personality’s printed card plus all permanent changes in effect on it. None of the Personality’s costs need to be paid and no entering-play effects are produced." [Erratum, JA, 8 July 2005]
  • If it copies Sentei no Oni, the removal of permanent effects occurs only to those that happened after the Egg of P'an Ku became Sentei no Oni. [ZF, 11 April 2005]

[edit] The First Oni (Inexperienced)

  • The additional Attack Phase it creates does not create any battlefields at Provinces. [JA, 15 Decmenber 2004]

[edit] The Hidden Heart of Iuchiban

  • The phrase "original owner" in its text should be read as "previous controller". [ZF, 7 August 2000; BC, clarified, 26 June 2008]

[edit] The Hooded Ronin (Experienced)

  • First ability does not reduce the cost of any card with the "Seven Thunders" keyword. It only affects Human Personalities with the "Thunder" keyword. [Reversal, BC, 26 June 2008]

[edit] The Iron Fortress of the Daidoji

  • Trait affects Daidoji cards you own, in and out of play. [JA, 3 September 2002]

[edit] The Longest Night

  • Both effects (negation and cost reduction) last until the straighten phase two turns after the current one of whomever is resolving this Event. [ZF, 2 April 2008]

[edit] The Master of Five

  • This card is banned in Legacy Format play. See Banned Cards.
  • Should read, "...any player who produces an Earth, Air (or Wind), Fire, Water, and Void action..." [Netnews, 26 August 1999]

[edit] The Monstrous War Machine of Fu Leng

  • Its text "Force = 0" is to be read as "a maximum Force of 0". [Netnews; BC, clarified 26 June 2008]

[edit] The New Akasha

  • A single Personality, alone in your army, who has both Crab Clan and Naga would satisfy the Stronghold's trait's requirements and receive +1/+1.

[edit] The New Order

  • The increased total for an Honor Victory lasts until the end of the game. [ZF, 26 September 2003]

[edit] The Otaku Palaces

  • Name changed to The Utaku Palaces.

[edit] The Return of Fu Leng

  • Any player unable to win an Honor Victory must destroy a Province to this event. Any player who can win an Honor Victory (i.e. Has Bayushi Kachiko Exp. 2 in play) can renounce it to spare a Province, even if he is using a clan listed. [29 September 1997]
  • Does not destroy a player's Province if there are additional conditions for achieving an Honor Victory (e.g., Kisada's Funeral) [DW, 30 July 1998]
  • Reactions to province destruction (i.e. Winds and Fortunes), including those that would negate it, occur after players are given the option to negate the destruction via the Event's own effect, not before, despite the order of effects as printed. [Reversal, BC, 31 December 2008]

[edit] The Shadowlands Horde

  • Renamed from Yogo Junzo's Army.

[edit] The Shadow's Claw

  • Is a Reaction taken instead of focusing. [Erratum, JA, 19 March 2003]

[edit] The Shogun's Fealty

  • If you or another player has multiple Winds, you gain the Imperial Favor only if none are the same. [ML, 12 August 2004]

[edit] The Sight of Death

  • The stipulations that "your" cards will still kill the target and that he'll return to "your" home are set when the action is taken and do not change if the Personality changes control. [DW, email, 19 February 1998]

[edit] The Temples of Shinsei

  • Prohibits attacks from all "oni, skeletons, zombies" and "undead cards," regardless of origin. The clause, "which have been returned to play by a spell," applies only to "Shadowlands cards." [DW, 12 February 1998]

[edit] The True Lands

  • Second action is a Reaction. [Erratum, DW, 29 January 1998]

[edit] The 12th Black Scroll

  • Ends the battle without resolution. [Netnews, 20 September 1999]

[edit] The Unquiet Grave of Hida Amoro

  • Its text "Only Undead Personalities may enter play from this Province" means "Non-Undead Personalities cannot enter play from this Province". Other cards can enter play from this Region's Province normally. [Netnews, 30 June 1999; Clarified, BC, 28 June 2008]

[edit] The Utaku Palaces

  • Renamed from The Otaku Palaces.
  • Cost reduction applies to Magistrates you own, in and out of play. [JA, 9 September 2002]

[edit] The Way of Death

  • Name changed to Way of Death. [MRP, Gold Edition, 1 July 2001]

[edit] Togashi Gaijutsu

  • Foregoing honor gain is not a cost of using his ability. [Reversal, BC, 26 June 2008]
  • However, the effect will fail if no Honor is gained (ie, "buying for Honor" a 0PH Personality) because there is nothing for the discard to happen "instead" of. Also for this reason, copies of this ability cannot be used to gain multiple bonuses on the same Samurai, because the Honor gain can only be substituted once, and then it is no longer there for further discards to happen "instead" of it. [BC, 26 June 2008]

[edit] Togashi Hoshi (Experienced)

  • Has the Creature keyword. [Erratum]

[edit] Togashi Kokujin

  • Name changed to Hitomi Kokujin. [MRP]

[edit] Togashi Mikoto

  • Only focused cards are discarded if a duel is restarted. Other duel-related effects are retained. [DW, 04 November 1996]

[edit] Togashi Mitsu

  • If given a "Dragon Tattoo" from that Action card, will be limited to three tokens because both fire token restrictions must be observed. [DW, email, 17 February 1999]
  • The ongoing effects of his action last until the end of the game (as seen on Togashi Jusai, who has the same action). [JA, 2 May 2002; Clarified, BC, 28 June 2008]

[edit] Togashi's Daisho

  • Should say "Dragon Clan Personality," not "Dragon Personality." [Clarification, 27 September 1999]

[edit] Togashi Shunsen

  • Has the Loyal keyword. [Erratum, JA, 31 March 2005]

[edit] Togashi Yama

  • The ongoing effects of his action last until the end of the game. [DW, 3 January 1996]

[edit] Tokiuji

  • Has the Ashigaru keyword. [Erratum]

[edit] Tonfa

  • A Personality who can attach two Weapons who has a Tonfa and another Weapon attached may attach a second Tonfa. [JA, 28 October 2002]

[edit] Toritaka Kitao

  • For a more concise wording of his trait, see Hiruma Ashihei (who has the same trait).

[edit] Toshimoko Sensei

  • Traits should read, "After you focus a card in a duel involving one of your Samurai Personalities: Increase the card's Focus Value by 1. Challenges issued to your Personalities will not be refused." [Technical errata, BC, 31 December 2008]

[edit] To Start a Dark Path

  • If the Honor loss from playing a fifth Dark Ring would put the player below -19 Family Honor, the active player chooses whether the player loses due to Honor loss or wins via Enlightenment. [JA, 16 June 2004]

[edit] Toturi

  • Renamed from Akodo Toturi. [MRP]

[edit] Toturi (Experienced 2)

  • You do not control Personalities who join your army. [ZF, netnews, 26 May 2001]
  • May force Personalities to switch armies if any opposing player has brought Shadowlands cards into play (i.e., allies). [Card text, ZF, netnews, 26 May 2001]
  • If given the Lion Clan keyword (e.g., by Oath of Fealty), it overrides the trait saying he is not a Lion Clan Personality, because it is the more recent effect. [JA, 11 March 2002]
  • "Imperial Favor... cannot target this unit." means "Actions whose costs include discarding the Imperial Favor... cannot target this unit." [BC, 28 June 2008]

[edit] Toturi's Last Stand

  • Add to the final sentence, "or were prevented from assigning." [Erratum]

[edit] Toturi's Treatise

  • Does not alter an army's force; rather, it tells you how to resolve a battle. [JA, 29 June 2000]
  • Can be used to destroy a province with 0 Province strength and 0F defending army, as "winning by 1F" is what is required to destroy it. [JA, 29 June 2000]

[edit] Touching the Soul

  • Bowing a Shugenja or Monk is a cost. [Erratum, ZF, 2 November 2003; JA, 3 November 2003]

[edit] Tr-ch'da

  • Item returned must have been attached to the opposing Personality when he was destroyed by the effect that triggered Tr-ch'da's ability. [JA, 9 June 2004]

[edit] Treasure Hoard

  • Misspelled as "Treasure Horde" in Khan's Defiance.

[edit] Tribute to Your House

  • Checks for what player(s) has the highest Honor only when first played. [JA, email, 10 November 2003]

[edit] Troll Raiders

  • It produces no effects upon its second resolution, only triggering a delayed effect from its first. Therefore, negating its effects (i.e. with Forewarning or Whispered Rumors) upon its second resolution will not prevent other Events from being able to resolve. [ML, 26 February 2008]

[edit] Troll War Band

  • First ability does not target, so may be used even in a battle where there is no Province (e.g., Ambush). [ZF, 08 March 2005]

[edit] Tsuburu no Oni

  • Renamed from Oni no Tsuburu. [MRP]

[edit] Tsuruchi (Experienced)

  • Has the Samurai keyword. [Erratum]

[edit] Tsuruchi Nobumoto

  • Honor Requirement is "-". [Erratum to MRP]

[edit] Tsuyu

  • Name changed to Yoritomo Tsuyu. [MRP]

[edit] Twenty-Seven Days of Darkness

  • Its first effect gives a maximum Gold production of 3 to all Holdings (not just those with a base production above 3; i.e. variable-production Holdings like Merchant Caravan). [ZF, netnews, October 1999; BC, clarified, 25 June 2008]
